Woven in 19th century Macedonia, then part of the Ottoman Empire, this
is a rare and rather amazing rug. The powerful, yellow-ground borders
contrast strongly with the plain red field, but the overall effect is
one of balance. The rug was woven on a narrow loom in two halves and
then joined together, hence the line down the middle. Some minor
wear, but generally in good pile. Unrestored; just hand-cleaned.
