For centuries, the Berbers have woven a kind of silk from the agave
plant, pounding and soaking the leaves until the fibres separate, then
spinning them by hand to create an extremely durable thread. It also
has some weight, and this kilim sits well on the floor, but could also be used as a cover or for upholstery.
